Our STANSTED High-Pressure Homogenizer systems provide an alternative method for meeting the challenges of graphene production. They offer manageable production scalability and possible increases in graphene yields.

The exceptional properties of graphene include its ultra-high tensile strength and excellent electrical and thermal conductivity.

Graphene is suitable for a wide range of next-generation applications, mainly when utilised in 'layers' with other 2D nanomaterials. It is also a fundamental structural element of Carbon Nanotubes.

High-pressure homogenization (HPH) is gaining popularity as an effective mechanical graphene exfoliation method. Learn more below.

The challenges of Graphene production

Scalability of production without negative impact on its properties.

  Low graphene yields.

The quality of graphene produced and its electrical conductivity and strength.

Some methods produce hazardous waste and poisonous gases.

Addressing Scalability

One key feature of our high-pressure Homogenizers is their ability to scale up to higher production levels and improve product consistency.

One example is the production of large volumes of conductive Graphene ink from flake graphite solution, which undergoes high energy / high shear in our homogenizer processing chamber ('micro channel'). The result (after several processing cycles) is a highly concentrated graphene suspension.

Increasing Graphene yields.

Our technology's high shear process can increase Graphene yields, which may be further increased in each additional cycle through the Homogenizer.

Improving Graphene quality.

Multiple factors, not just the method of Graphite exfoliation used, can determine the quality and purity of graphene produced.

HPH can be used to create mild exfoliation conditions, which may decrease defects' formation..

Other factors that can influence Graphene purity include the introduction of various solvents or surfactants.

Lowering Graphene Production Costs.

HPH can utilise Flake Graphite - a cheap and abundant source - as the raw material for Graphene production.

Our technology is easily scalable from Lab R&D to production volumes.

HPH does not (usually) require using expensive substrates during processing.

As shown in the diagram below, the solution is recycled back into the inlet reservoir from the outlet reservoir to start another cycle.

The graphite flakes can be exfoliated during each cycle using our Micro Channels technology.

Our STANSTED High-Pressure Homogenizers can be a cost-effective and efficient graphene exfoliation method.
